Current Art Projects

I am continuing to draw my trash in the series "Carbon Footprints" - large drawings of the smaller things in life.
I am really enjoying drawing from life and seeing the effects of combining the pastel pencil and charcoal.

I am also having fun
It's like drawing with eye shadow.
WAY too much fun.

Artist Statement
I want to show you something that you have seen a thousand times, in such a way that you realize you have never really seen it before. So that you too will pause in your day … just for a moment … to stop and look.
If I can make you notice the extraordinary beauty of a papery onion skin shining like stained glass, just before you peel and chop it for tonight’s dinner;
see, before you empty the dishwasher yet again, the sudden sparkling of sunlit dishes;
appreciate, just for a moment, the deep rich color of a plum smudged with a dusty blue bloom before you sink in your teeth, then I have done the job I set out to do. I believe it is in these brief moments of reflection that happiness lies.

Biography
Jo Bradney was born in London, UK and grew up off the south coast of England in the idyllic much-thatched Isle of Wight, memories of which are still the subject of many of her smaller works. After a fun-filled three years studying ancient history and literature for a BA in Classical Studies from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in England’s far north, she married and moved to America in 1996.
She came looking for adventure – and found out that she could draw.
