New Paintings and Drawings : oil paint, color pencils, pastels, charcoal and oil pastels
Posting regular Work in Progress updates to my blog Fresh Paint has really kept me focused.
Result? More art.
These drawings and paintings are just some of this year's work.
Red Velvet Ruffles
8" x 8"
oil painting
A very dainty pile of pink ruffles and frills - scalloped edges of the cupcake papers touched with blobs of icing and the delicate transitions from rosy carmine through crimson to deep burgundy. Yum
Almost as tasty as creating the pile in the first place
Rainbow Sprinkles
9" x 12"
oil painting on paper
They may be Yesterdays Donuts. The icing may have dissolved and smeared a little, the sprinkles may have smushed in to one blob of multi-color...and yet they still smell good enough to eat. So good that my hand stretches out for them involuntarily
Donut Duo
9" x 8"
oil painting on paper
Just a Little Light
5" x 5"
oil painting
This little candle nub was all that was left after last years big snowstorm and 3 day blackout (whiteout?)
And one last match
Cheez Cascade
9" x 12"
oil painting
Cheez Doodles and cheesey dust cascade from the almost empty bag
Poofs in Porcelain
5" x 5"
oil painting
Crunchy orange cheese poofs in slick blue porcelain - such decadence and depravity
Red Velvet
5" x 5"
oil painting
The wrapper is just starting to peel away from this moist Red Velvet cupcake.
Get ready to sink your teeth through that perfect swirl of icing, as your taste buds start to tingle in anticipation of the moist cake hidden beneath
Cheez Doodles with Great Auntie Win
18" x 18"
oil painting
Original Artwork : NOT FOR SALE
Part Still Life, part family portrait. Great Auntie Win was a wear your pearls to the beach kinda gal. I expect she would approve of her delicate china being filled with the only the best of cheesey puffs
Cheez Louise
14" x 18"
oil painting
Original Artwork : SOLD
Sugar Spiral
14" x 18"
oil painting
Spiraling plastic bag; gooey chocolate frosting; a curling Cruller and the swirling, shifting shadow on a toothache pink (aka Peptol Bismal Pink) background. It is a vortex you cannot escape
Irresistible Joy
5" x 5"
oil painting
Chemically bright Italian Rainbow Cookies, sandwiched with gooey jam then wrapped in chocolate - if ever a snack deserved the phrase "taste the rainbow" it would be this little Italian confection. They always give me a cartoon zinginess that makes me feel I could take on a Godzilla attack
Original Artwork : SOLD
Saving the Last Rainbow

The dismal discards after a near fatal Halloween chocolate binge

The blog has also been a great excuse to experiment with different drawing techniques, media and paper.
As well as drawing with colored pencil I have been playing with :
- rich and creamy oil pastels (is that drawing or painting?)
- Pan Pastels - those irresistible pots of pure color
- Prismacolor Art Stix
- powdered red chalk
- and combining pastel pencils and charcoal
In fact I have come to love drawing with charcoal so much, that they and now have their own series "Carbon Footprints", moodily magnifying my daily detritus
For more color pencil art have a look at my Miniature Landscapes and the series Life of a Still Life
