Joyous in January ??
I always used to feel a bit deflated in January. After the rush and excitement of Christmas, January was so empty, with the bleakest weather yet to come and the house so
Spartan without its festive ornaments.
But this year is different. After nearly two months away preparing for art fairs and
enjoying a good lazy vacation it is such a joy to be back in my studio.
I am exciting to be working on a new LARGE color pencil drawing, and it is
so refreshing to be able to stretch my elbows after the confines of a tiny miniature.
All that white paper
used to be a bit daunting, but now it’s like the clean empty rooms of my January house - just waiting to be filled with beautiful color.
There is also a new blog on the website, where I will be sharing the process with you day by day.
The preliminary sketches are already posted, so hope you will stop by
and leave me an
encouraging comment or two.
I also started the year off with an onion - I've never yet met an onion I didn't want to paint. It is the next in
my series of vegetable portraits in black and white.
Looking at a real-life, colored object and then translating that into black and white is a challenging exercise...which
is probably what makes it such good fun.
I hope you too are finding some joy in your January...now if we can only get through February....
