Small Wonders (and furry spider suits) in Annapolis, MD

Red Velvet Ruffles : oil painting | SOLD

The Small Wonders show in Annapolis, MD is a great spot to pick up something for your special someone, even if they are impossible to buy for. For instance,  I bet they haven't got a cute hand knitted spider sweater. I'm told it's what all the best dressed arachnids have on their Christmas list this year

Seeing Spots at CWOW

Metro 29 at cWOW

lots of good paintings, interesting sculptures and intriguing collages at Metro 29 - City Without Walls, Newark NJ. And lots of sales from the opening night too.

But what do you know? I just managed to squeeze 2 photos out of a dying battery, only to find that the spare was dead as well. So I only have this delicate cut paper collage by Patricia Ritchie to share with you. If you want to see the rest, well you'll just have to hop in the car...or wait till I get back there with a fully operational camera.

Now, where did I put that charger?

last weekend to go BANG!

Suzanne Henning
photography by Annette Kushen

There were lots of little red SOLD spots by the end of last Sunday, including one for myself, which I failed to photograph for some reason! Not to worry though - the gaps have all been filled with new work, so even if you stopped by last weekend pop by again to see what new goodies arrived during the week.

The mulled cider will be back on the menu, along with some Triple Ginger Cookies, or something equally as evil no doubt. So put on your wellies and stop by for something warming.

And Now for Something Completely Different

untitled life drawing

Working from a living, breathing model, with their own humor, quirks and personality is such a fantastic change from painting stale donuts and year old cheez doodles!

So for the past year or so, I have been ditching the doodles and sneaking off to a life drawing session on Friday mornings with the NJ Sketch Club.

The intense concentration required to look and draw for short bursts always requires more energy than I imagine and the challenge of trying to capture the essentials without overworking the drawing remains ever elusive. But it is these addictive qualities that keep me coming back for more

It is a fun, and sometimes frustrating way to spend a Friday morning, but I am always fascinating to see the different interpretations of my fellow sketchers.

Stop by and Meet the Artists this Saturday, May 5th 2-5pm

Exhibiting Artists: John Wolff, Florence Wint, Peter Allen, Jo Bradney, Claire Simon, Theresa Kubert, Ivan Bratko, Anne Picker, Lawrence Wlazlo, Frank Thropp, and Joel Tidey

Feast Your Eyes on This

Saved You One : charcoal and pastel

For April and June, I will have a solo show of work surrounding the acquisition, preparation, consumption and disposal of food.

The work captures those brief moments that often slip past unnoticed in our fast food lives, illuminating the things we have seen a thousand times, while cleaning the kitchen, preparing dinner or taking out the trash.

Thirty drawings and prints will be on display in the Madison Gallery of Morristown Memorial Hospital - the main corridor leading to the cafeteria. I wonder if my pictures will change the choices people make once they get there!
