"Carbon Footprints" : online charcoal still life drawing exhibition

I realize for those of you across the country and on the far side of the world, that it may not be quite so convenient for you to drop by and see some of my exhibitions.Well there's no excuse with this show. Carbon Footprints May 30 - June 30 2009

"Carbon Footprints" features the new charcoal still life drawings of my daily detritus, together with some thoughts from me about why I find my rubbish quite so fascinating.

Oil Pastel Art Work in Progress : Magical Realism

oil pastel paintings

Now that was fun!

These oil pastels are such a joy to use. The creamy ones are like drawing with lipstick and they cover the paper so much faster than the color pencil. I have ordered a few more colors to add some darker spots in the background and I need to refine some of the details, but that shouldn't take too long. Hopefully it will be ready in time for the "Summer" show at the Summit Medical Group this month.

Broken Wine Glass charcoal still life drawing(Carbon Footprint #13)

My husband broke this wine glass at the weekend. Lulu though it was her fault of course and hid in her crate until it was all cleaned up. They were both a little alarmed when I cheered and danced round the kitchen with excitement. Not the reaction they were expecting I think.

But I knew how much fun it would be to draw. All that symmetry, ellipses, tricky see-through bits and sparkle. I hope I nailed it.

And of course, now I have a great excuse to go shopping.

Plastic Water Bottle : charcoal still life drawing

Name that Sketch - water bottle The lady ahead of me at the checkout today was filling her new "green" cloth reusable grocery bags with enough Plastic Water to sink a battleship.

Irony at the grocery store - what will they think of next?

Made me feel quite self-righteous with just my one small bottle.

Description : An empty plastic water bottle stands alone, crushed and discarded.

Broken Corkscrew : charcoal still life drawing

Corkscrew - charcoal drawing

When my faithful friend ended his final days, I couldn't help laughing. He looked so forlorn without his arm.

Art Show Opening Reception : Free Drinkies and Nibbles

Drip Dry - color pencil drawing Yesterday I helped hang the work for the 10th Annual Gaelen Juried Art Show and there is some terrific, diverse work from many local artists. The photography category is particularly good this year, with some interesting contemporary images. And the drawing category (of particular interest to me!) has a lot of great work too.

I hope you can stop by for the opening reception this Sunday lunchtime.

Opening Reception : Sunday May 17 12:30 - 2pm

May 17 - June 18 2009 The Gaelen Gallery West Lautenburg Family JCC 901 Route 10 East Whippany, NJ

Oil Pastel and Color Pencil Landscape Drawing : Tree Tunnel

Tree Tunnel : color pencil drawing I have had this picture in mind for a while and started playing around with a few studies and practice pieces last summer. Now the upcoming show "Artscapes : a Celebration of Summer" has spurred me into finally making the jump to a larger format.
